Unchanged
The original. Handcrafted from recycled aluminum in Hanover, Pennsylvania, since 1944. Tested to last 150 years.
No one else makes chairs like this. No one else is capable of it. It takes a human eye to know when the work is finished. And it takes human hands to achieve it.
Choosing aluminum is smart
Aluminum is extremely strong, lightweight, and fire-resistant. It is also non-corrosive, non-magnetic, and antibacterial. Furthermore, it can be recycled infinitely.
It wasn't a question of style
During World War II, the US Navy needed seating. They ordered a lightweight, non-corrosive, fire-resistant, and "torpedo-proof" chair. Emeco took up the challenge.
With a specific goal
We began by manufacturing chairs for U.S. Navy ships during World War II. The Navy needed a chair that was lightweight, non-corrosive, fire-resistant, non-magnetic, and torpedo-proof. With the help of experts from Alcoa, we developed a unique 77-step process that transforms recycled aluminum into chairs of extraordinary strength. Today, we still manufacture them the same way, as approved by the U.S. Navy in 1944, at our factory in Hanover, Pennsylvania.
Lifetime warranty
Our all-aluminum chairs and stools come with a lifetime warranty. Their estimated lifespan is 150 years or more. Their longevity, in both design and construction, means they can be passed down from generation to generation.
Recycled. Recyclable. Infinitely.
Most of the aluminum produced in the late 1800s is still very much alive today. In cans, computer parts – and Emeco furniture. Recycling aluminum saves 95% of the energy needed to produce the same amount from virgin material.
Low carbon footprint
Recycled aluminum allows us to keep the carbon footprint of our products exceptionally low, starting at just 8.42 kg CO2e. To put this in perspective, a chair made from virgin materials typically has a footprint of 30 to 60 kg CO2e. This, combined with the long lifespan of our products, ensures that our furniture has a minimal impact on the planet.
Approved for outdoor use
Aluminum is non-corrosive. Perfect for outdoor use in all weather conditions, even by the sea. Aluminum doesn't heat up in the sun, meaning you won't burn your hands or legs. We guarantee our hand-brushed anodized finish and powder-coated finishes for outdoor applications.
Easy to clean
Aluminum is easy to maintain and retains its appearance over time. Its antibacterial properties make it particularly suitable for sensitive environments such as healthcare facilities. Our durable anodized finish can be bleach-cleaned and pressure-washed.
Light
Aluminum is lightweight, making it easy to handle, move, and clean underneath, as well as allowing for flexible space setup and reconfiguration. Many of our chair models are also stackable for efficient storage. For rooftop terraces and other windy applications, we can add weight to the product without altering its appearance.
