Fence is a high-back sofa designed by the Berlin studio Geckeler Michels for Karimoku New Standard, made for offices and hospitality spaces as well as the home. Its design is inspired by industrial pallets: an oak frame with carefully crafted details surrounds the generous volumes of the upholstery.

The firm yet comfortable seat is enclosed by padded walls with a flexible core. The high back creates a secluded space for a one-to-one conversation or focused work. With its beautifully finished back, Fence becomes almost an architectural element and can be used to divide and structure a large space.

Almost architecture

Inspired by industrial pallets, the Fence Sofa raises a high back that preserves privacy — for a meeting, a moment of focus or a time apart. A calm presence that structures large spaces like an architectural element, down to the care given to the back of the sofa.

The fabrics

Five upholstery families, from wool knit to recycled denim — each with its own material, hand and character.

Kvadrat Steelcut Trio 3 fabric — three-yarn wool knit

Three yarns, a living colour

Kvadrat Steelcut Trio 3 — a three-yarn wool knit that makes the colour vibrate at the surface. Dense, springy and highly hard-wearing (100,000 Martindale) — from the living room to high-traffic spaces.

Kvadrat Vidar 4 fabric — wool crêpe weave

Depth, gently

Kvadrat Vidar 4 — a wool crêpe weave with a slightly satiny surface and nuanced tones. Matte, warm and very durable (100,000 Martindale).

Kvadrat Coda 2 fabric — double-layer wool

Two colours woven into one

Kvadrat Coda 2 — two layers of wool in different shades woven together, giving this graphic, textured surface. Understated and durable (100,000 Martindale).

Maharam Mode and Merit fabrics

A warm, flecked surface

Maharam Mode & Merit — two New York fabrics: Mode with its flecked recycled yarn, and Merit with its finer two-tone weave. Understated and hard-wearing.

RE:DENIM fabric — recycled indigo denim

Indigo, a second life

RE:DENIM — recycled denim developed with Factelier for Karimoku New Standard: a dense, matte fabric in deep indigo. An eco-responsible choice (Standard wood only).
