Nendo

Founded in Tokyo in 2002 by Japanese designer Oki Sato, Nendo is one of the most prolific studios on the contemporary scene.
Trained in architecture at Waseda University in Tokyo, Oki Sato developed a working method based on observing everyday micro-behaviors. Each project begins with a practical detail, a technical constraint, an ordinary gesture. This attention to reality tempers the risk of formalism inherent in any mass production.
Quote from Nendo / Oki Sato: "The Emeco Navy Chair is 'THE' chair, and it has always inspired many architects and designers around the world, including us. We are proud to present 'Su', which is strongly linked to the Navy Chair. For us, it is definitely 'THE' stool."
Quote from Gregg Buchbinder (Emeco, 2014): "The Su collection has 'the Emeco genes' — the iconic seat of Emeco chairs made since 1944. It is also a testament to our environmental commitment and uses surprising new eco-friendly materials, such as eco-concrete, reclaimed barn wood, cork, and recycled plastic. Working with Nendo has been rewarding — a designer whose philosophy is to strip things down, eliminate excess, and find beauty in simplicity. This strong tradition in Japan resonates with both Emeco's past and future." – Gregg Buchbinder, Owner and CEO of Emeco, 2014
