A pure disc of light. The evolution.

How to light a space without crowding it? Designers Sam Hecht and Kim Colin worked on the idea of "visual reduction". The lamp is just a vertical line and a disc. No visible cables, no complex buttons. The idea is to create a "pastille of light" that floats — a graphic presence rather than a bulky object.

The w242 marks the move from composite to precision aluminium. This material allows greater structural fineness while naturally dissipating heat. Unlike a directional spot, its wide diffuser creates a soft, even sheet of light downwards, ideal for working or reading without glare.

Diffused Light (Downlight):It does not project a tight beam but generously illuminates the surface under the lamp (table, book, keyboard).

Aluminum body:A robust metal construction that acts as a heat sink.

Fluid Joint:Freedom of movement thanks to a pivot at the base and a rotating head to direct the light beam.

Intuitive Ergonomics:A single button at the top of the stem to turn on and vary the intensity (dimmable).

Visual Purity:No cables pass through the joints.

Wide, quality light distribution

Thanks to a perfect balance between a COB LED light source, a large reflector and a generous concave diffuser, the w242 Pastille alu delivers a warm, soft light. Smooth dimming is controlled with a single press on the button at the top of the vertical stem.

Smooth rotation

Pivoting fluidly up and down and on its own axis, the w242 Pastille alu articulates freely to create a soft, diffuse light, while offering definition that is at once delicate and precise.

Recycled and recyclable aluminium

Aluminium is not only a classic, proven and infinitely recyclable material: its strength and lightness allow robust, resource-efficient design. The w242 Pastille alu is made of partially recycled aluminium that can in turn be recycled at the end of its long life.

Minimal footprint, maximum flexibility

The w242 Pastille alu adapts to a wide range of spatial configurations while taking up minimal space. Beyond the classic desk model, a wide range of mounting options lets you clamp it to a desk or a shelf, fix it to the wall, place it on the floor, or integrate it directly into a surface (desk or wall) with no visible cable.

Full-spectrum LED

Designed to recreate the full, continuous chromatic spectrum of sunlight, full-spectrum light has a rich, deep quality impossible to achieve with the limited spectrum of a standard LED. It also offers superior colour rendering, making it an ideal choice for environments where accurate colour perception is essential.

Raw

The w242 Pastille alu is available in a textured raw aluminium finish, with no added coatings or protective treatments. This allows resource-efficient production, easier recycling and a graceful ageing process. From day one, its naturally textured surface offers rich tactile depth, with any marks from the production process simply adding character. Over time, stains, fingerprints and oxidation will evolve into a beautifully distinctive patina.

Designers Sam Hecht and Kim Colin

Sam Hecht and Kim Colin founded their studio, Industrial Facility, to apply careful thinking about form, paired with a singular understanding of contemporary life, drawing beauty from utility across the products, furniture and exhibitions they design. Hecht, originally from London, is a trained industrial designer, while Colin, originally from Los Angeles, trained as an architect.

Counting among their clients forward-looking companies such as Muji and Herman Miller, they are known for an approach that is at once philosophical and pragmatic. Both have been elected Royal Designers, a distinction that recognises sustained excellence in design and significant contribution to society. Their work features in most major permanent collections, including MoMA in New York, the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the V&A in London.
