The classic — in tall version.

The 75 cm Rowac-Schemel once offered remarkable stability to operators of industrial machines. Today, it is the perfect bar stool — sober, solid, elegant.

A second crossbar serves as a comfortable footrest, naturally integrated into the riveted structure. The result is a tall stool that retains all the geometric purity of the original while meeting the height requirements of a counter or central island.

Like the 50 cm model, the Schemel 75 cm is hand-crafted in Germany's Erzgebirge mountains, within 40 km of Chemnitz. Each piece is hand-assembled: steel forming, riveting, wood turning — no welding, no shortcuts.

Riveting, the Rowac signature. Unlike welded steel furniture, which breaks under stress, riveted construction flexes without breaking. It is the same technique used for 19th-century bridges and metal frameworks, guaranteeing exceptional longevity. Many original Schemels are still in use after more than a century.

  • Riveted steel: cold-rolled steel base, formed and riveted. The rivet's flexibility absorbs stress without breaking.
  • Integrated footrest: a second structural crossbar serves as a natural footrest at mid-height.
  • PEFC solid wood: hand-turned seat in local Erzgebirge species.
  • 16 combinations: 4 base finishes × 4 wood species. Each Schemel is unique.
  • Bauhaus: direct heir to the seat chosen by Walter Gropius for the Bauhaus in Dessau.

The forgotten Schemel of the Bauhaus.

In 1909, the world's very first riveted steel seat was born in the Ore Mountains. Over 100 years later, the Rowac Schemel is still handcrafted in the same region — true to the original, without a single weld.

Chosen by the Bauhaus.

Walter Gropius chose the Rowac Schemel as the work seat at the Bauhaus in Dessau. By 1923, it already furnished the workshops in Weimar. A seat designed to last — and one that has endured for over a century.

Riveted, not welded.

Unlike welded furniture that breaks under stress, riveted construction flexes without breaking. It is the same technique used in 19th-century bridges and metal frameworks. Each Schemel is assembled by hand — no welds, no shortcuts.

Made in the Ore Mountains.

Regional production within a 40 km radius around Chemnitz, in Saxony. Metal parts are stamped, riveted, and painted on site. The PEFC-certified wood comes from surrounding forests and is shaped by experienced turners.

16 possible combinations.

4 base finishes — glossy black, matte black, mountain green, raw steel — combined with 4 PEFC-certified solid wood species: beech, ash, black ash, oak. Each Schemel is unique.
